Investment

You can invest directly in shares or property, or indirectly into any of the major asset sectors through a managed fund. A managed fund is an investment vehicle which pools the assets of many investors into a single fund with a common investment objective and strategy. The benefit of a managed fund is that you can access professional management and broad diversification.

Step 1

We spend time with you to determine your risk profile. That is, a level of risk you’re comfortable with that allows you to meet your goals. Once your risk profile is determined, we then recommend an appropriate allocation mix of your portfolio to be invested in the different asset sectors.

For example, cash, fixed interest, property, Australian and international shares. This is our first tier of diversification. It is important that your investment is diversified to protect the downside market movements as much as possible, whilst taking advantage of the upside movements in a growth market. Diversification provides protection to your portfolio so all your “eggs are not in one basket”.

Step 2

To ensure the recommended investments are appropriate to you, we then further diversify your portfolio and blend fund manager investment styles that are compatible with your individual risk profile and investment timeframe. This is our second tier of diversification.

We select the best fund managers for each sector or balanced fund. These fund managers are carefully researched and highly rated by an external research house. We ensure your portfolio is carefully weighted with a combination of fund manager styles that compliment each other. The third tier is to further diversify by selecting a combination of fund managers.

Our three tiers of diversification i.e. asset class, investment style and fund manager, means risks to downward movement of your portfolio can be minimised.

In your annual review we consider your investment portfolio and the recommended asset allocation mix to ensure it is still true to your financial plan. When examining investments within a plan we will provide the following (where suited):

  • full investment recommendations based upon risk profile
  • ownership and cash flow analysis
  • gearing strategies (only if appropriate)
